The restoration of our edifice, coming upwards on three years agone.
Demo took a short amount of time, just boy, there was a lot of debris from have down two floors to open up up the 14 pes ceilings. Come across below how many of the window are missing? They were covered with drywall.
Yeah, wood shake was uncovered. But so was the original post office wall tile, so there's that!
All the interior office walls torn out. The commencement ten feet of the store'southward original terazzo floor restored, and original wall tile made like new (much of it was painted Orangish).
The men placing the floor tiles were truely talented, and neat sports. Not simply did I want the floor tiles placed in sets of four to create super large squares, but I besides wanted them placed on the diagonal to make the space seem even more expansive. AND I wanted them to all radiate perfectly from the middle of the front door. Thankfully, they were sticklers for perfection as I was.
The building in our first neighborhood that Joe and saw potential in years before. So glad fate brought me here, to this place in Fort Wayne, Indiana, now total of fiber. The yarn store of my dreams.
Auction yarn dropping soon. ane/iii ton.
Seriously.
The look is over! If you want to buy this awesome yarn online, Simply Socks Yarn Company is the place to be! I'chiliad proud to offer such a wide assortment of the highest quality sock yarn in my store, and Bluish Moon Fiber Arts definitely fits our hope of offer you the best we can discover at the fairest prices we can. Later nearly nine years of waiting, Tina (owner of BMFA) has decided to change things up a bit and offer her yarn to select shops to sell online. Nosotros are the beginning local yarn shop to debut this pick to y'all, to purchase from the comfort of your own home.
What do I have for you lot? First off, BMFA'south virtually popular yarn, Socks that Rock Lightweight (shown above in Broody Bantams). This yarn is obviously swell for socks, but is also fab for sweaters, baby garments and accessories. Snag one each of the colors y'all like to keep on manus for things like a stunning Sockhead hats (similar I did) and Vanilla Latte socks. Afterall, this yarn is perfect to keep on paw for simple projects because the colors tin can certainly stand solitary.
I have a dizzying array of color choices for you, but I know that many of y'all volition be about excited well-nigh the holiday colors. These are usually bachelor just the concluding couple months of the year, but I know that some of you similar to snag Christmas-themed colors early to brand sure you lot have it for when y'all need information technology. So yous'll notice several of these colors in this batch.
Want a thicker weight Socks that Rock? I also have the heavyweight (shown above in Cockamamie, i of Tina's heirloom chicken colorways), which is a low-cal-worsted weight which comes in a very generous vii ounce skein (nearly double the size of similar yarns). This would make awesomely warm socks, super absurd hats, mittens, baby garments and blankets. Try ane of the Tipsy colors, which are white with a tip of color to them. Wouldn't that be awesome for a baby blanket? Mostly white with just a few streaks of color here and in that location?
Want some BFL? I have that besides! Shown higher up in Black Magic, this fingering weight wool sucks upward the color in a stunning style, giving you lot super saturated skeins. This base isn't superwash, so don't agitate it with hot water, but instead handwash common cold. Makes crawly accessories.
We all deserve luxury, and then I have a treat for you. Marine Silk Lace (shown above in Copperline) and Marine Silk Fingering (shown beneath in Jade). At that place's something nigh this combination of silk (51%) merino and sea cell (a plant fiber) that creates an almost metallic-looking skein. The sheen on this is unmatched in annihilation I've seen at this price. The Marine Silk fingering weight has near 500 yards, and the lace weight has over 850. Plenty of yardage for larger projects. If either of these is something y'all call back you might like, please don't hesitate bcause I take a limited corporeality.
Like several of the hand dyed lines I offer, I hope to get in batches a few times a year. But I don't expect to have BMFA in stock all the fourth dimension. I may procure plenty of some colors to last an 60 minutes or a few weeks. I'll do my all-time to have the skeins in the shop that you want, so if y'all accept suggestions for types of BMFA yarn or colors, merely east-mail me at service@simplysockyarn.com. I'm hither to listen and go what y'all need!

I take dozens of colors of Socks that Stone Lightweight and Heavyweight, BFL Fingering, and even some of the sumptuous Marine Fingering and Marine Lace. I take quite a lot available, but like the virtually sought later collections, it's probable to sell somewhat quickly. Subsequently all, Blueish Moon Fiber Arts is a specially selected team of seven, non a huge corporation utilizing machines and lever-pullers. This isn't something that volition be in stock all the time. Call up of this more like a curated drove of yarn and colors that I'll offer a few times a year. Some colors may sell nigh immediately, and some may terminal a bit longer. I exercise hope I have enough to last awhile each time though.
Shown above, my Sockhead Hat in progress (now finished and worn) in Socks that Rock lightweight in Free Range Chickens
I'm then happy to be able to offer this yarn to you lot in a few short days. These are skeins that I admire and I tin can't wait to be able to share them. Though I will acknowledge that as nosotros have been taking photos, we have been maxim things like "Oh, man, I can't believe I didn't become this skein," or "OK, I actually demand to buy one of these before it's gone. What if it looks different next time?" You'd think that after ix nears of working with yarn that I'd exist somewhat immune to its charms. Nope, I'm notwithstanding bugged.

Happy Valentine's Twenty-four hour period!!
I'm always excited to add a new dyer to the shop, and the yarn of Wooly Wonka Fibers is ane the whole SSYC squad has been salivating over for months. Shop-manager Heather knit up this crawly shawl to test the Artio Sock base of operations months ago, and since and so, it'due south been a constant reminder of the big corporeality of yarn coming from the mountains of New Mexico to the plains of Indiana.
Anne typically sells her wares at fiber festivals throughout the west, only recently decided to take on a few more than shops. I'm so glad to exist able to offer her skeins to y'all, non merely considering the colors are gorgeous and textures divine, but the prices are a bargain. Each skein is $24, and that's with great yardage and luxury fibers. I take three bases for you to cull from Artio Sock (silk/bfl) Aerten Sock (merino/cashmere/nylon) and Arianrhod Sock (merino/silk/sparkle).
Shown below, Artio Sock in Around Midnight
I asked Anne to have a few moments with me and share a bit near her art and life, and here's what she had to say.
Allison @ SSYC: I'one thousand so glad to exist offering your skeins in the shop. What fabricated you decide to take on new shops and change things up a bit?
Anne @ Wooly Wonka: Just in the last year I've started adding on shop customers. IN the past, I've merely sold through my website and at cobweb festivals. However, I've had several contacts from shop owners I had met at various festivals asking if they could bear my yarns and it'south wound up to be a great opportunity for me every bit well every bit the LYS owners. Here in the Southwest, at that place aren't the prevalence of cobweb shows that you'd find back east; committing to a 12-60 minutes drive each way for most shows is a BIG committment, and existence able to sell to stores gets me a piddling extra exposiure to knitters without having to drive quite so much!
Shown below, Aerten Sock in Nantucket
Allison @ SSYC: Tell me where nosotros tin observe you this summer. What are some of your favorite or more memorable fiber fests or events?
Anne: This twelvemonth I've cut back a bit on shows for the spring. I simply had a volume proposal picked up by Interweave Printing and whew! Crazy schedule to get 23 garments and accessories designed, knit and out the door to editors past September. So I'm sticking close to home for the offset one-half of the year. I have tentative plans for the Salida (CO) festival this autumn, as well as the new Heart of NM Gathering in Albuquerque this summer. I'll possibly get to Texas in November.
I'll exist the first to admit that I really like indoor shows. One of my favorites is the Dallas/Ft. Worth show. Well organized, nice space and great attendance. And I get an excuse to hang out with a great group on knitter friends from the expanse too. I did ane outdoor bear witness in Table salt Lake years ago where nosotros had a lovely, absolutely perfect weather day on Saturday, and and then Sunday the winds started. They were simply HOWLING downward the mountain. We spent the 24-hour interval chasing skeins and hanging onto the tent for honey life! (Which is why I really like indoor shows. Not much take a chance of the booth bravado away!)
Allison: WOW. I can completely empathize your modify of pace. We're quite thankful that you're devoting more fourth dimension to shops, as we will be i of them to benefit! I similar the thought that past shopping at SSYC it'south similar browsing the aisles of a fiber festival.
My shop manager, Heather, knit the Artio Sock in the Dark Roast colorway into an Atomic number 26 Maiden shawl. She said that every in one case in awhile there was a tiny blood-red dot on the brown yarn and every time she saw that, it was like a treat. It made her happy and desire to continue knitting til she saw another. While she and I know the reason for these artful inconsistencies in yarn, please tell readers are bit near dye and how information technology works. What causes these and every bit a dye artist what are your thoughts about the unpredictability of color?
Anne: The little flecks are acquired past a "break" in the dye. Each colour is made upward of several base colors, some of which are happier to stay in solution than others. Reds are notorious for liking to pop up in odd little places. And a lot of my brown mixes take red in them for a warm tone, and so that component sometimes becomes fugitive, leaving those tiny little specks.
Personally, as a knitter, yes I like them. To me it says "created by hand" and I beloved all the little changes from skein to skein. Every bit a dyer, they sometimes are frustrating because it might not exist what a customer envisions in their project. And of grade, when dyeing a big batch at a time, you can bet it will be on the one skien that doesn't quite go a close going-over when it comes out of the pot and winds up in the hands of someone who prefers no flecks at all!
Allison: See, I honey those inconsistencies. You tin can send me all the skeins that have flecks... I'll transport you my home address...
And so is yarn your full time gig? Or practice you have a "day job" equally then many dyers do?
Anne: Right now, I'm dyeing and designing virtually 35-40 hours a week, and then in that respect, yes, it's a full-fourth dimension gig. I also accept some other total-time twenty-four hour period task (40 hours a week), which I'one thousand hoping to surrender in the short term and move into dyeing and designing as my just full-fourth dimension job. Good matter I manage without a lot of slumber, eh?
Allison: I'm starting to realize that no i in this industry sleeps much! Well, thank you for taking time out of your super busy schedul to create astonishing little skeins for my customers. Several of these lovelies were sold correct out of the box on the day they arrived here, and I'yard so glad to be able to share your talent with many others.
Shown above, a detail of Arianrhod Sock in Elphaba, then you can ameliorate see the sparkle.
Now here's something I demand correct now. Actress warm socks in bright cheerful color. Thank you to Opal for giving me an infusion of something that I'k so lacking right now in the 40 Snowflake collection!
Opal has released their newest collection, and information technology'south one of those thicker light-worsted weight sock yarns that they only release once every yr or ii. So if you, like me, are stuck in a place where the snow simply doesn't stop and white is everywhere you look, these colors may be just what you need to elevator those winter blues (or whites).
Each brawl is 150 grams (50% more than than the 4ply collections), which means yous'll have enough for a very large pair of socks, or perhaps even two minor/medium pairs. And like all Opal yarn, it tolerates automobile washing and drying very well. While I don't oft machine dry out mine, I know they can tolerate it and come out just fine on a regular basis. Opal is 1 of those yarns that you tin gift a pair of socks to someone and non worry near how they'll exist cared for. So if yous are looking for thick, warm socks, requite the 8ply Snowflake collection a try.
Yesterday we received a lovely piddling package from Zen Yarn Garden. Heather saw color SSYC 22 and gasped,"You lot're like a chimera. Yous shouldn't even exist possible." While Rachael was headed out the door to book her nuptials reception hall and decided "I tin can stay a bit. Similar 30 seconds," to gaze longer at the colors.
Take a await at the xv colors of their Tranquility 20 we have for you! These colors are referred to every bit OOAK (i of a kinds) because while in that location are several skeins of each colorway, they each look slightly different- more or less of a color, or different intensity.
I've paired a few together, just colors I think actually gear up each other off nicely. Simply 1 is enough for a luxurious pair of socks or a shawette. Catch two for a larger piece. Shown above SSYC 25 with SSYC 22. Shown below, SSYC 05 with Plumelle.
Shown to a higher place, SSYC 25 with Bronze Age. Shown below, SSYC 26 and SSYC 24.
This is i of those cobweb combos that has twenty% cashmere, and you lot can really feel it. Definitely something you tin wear confronting the skin and feel amazing.
...just white. White on the screen, white outside. More snow. And more than.
Want colour? Well, information technology's coming. Male child, is information technology coming.
I have new dyers and lines coming for you in the very almost time to come. Yarn you've been waiting for. Yarn you lot didn't even know you lot wanted. Yarn you didn't even know existed. Man, I love my job. All this yarn. I tin't wait to share it with you.
But today, I'grand sitting in my basement, staring out the windows at all the white. Snowed in again. Drifts taller than me. Trying to play catch upward when I nonetheless don't have my voice back withal (day 6), services are at a standstill, and everything simply stops. I don't want to stop! I want color. And texture. And spring!
All this is to say that I have so much fab stuff to share with you over the coming month. Color galore. Talent in fistfulls. Dyers I'one thousand bursting with pride to correspond. I simply need a few mintues and a snowmobile to brand it all happen. Anyone sell time? Or rural snowmobile ship?
Oh, and the 12 Days of Sock Yarn winners? Still to exist announced. Still some other matter shoved on the backburner during this calendar month-made-nutso by the extreme weather condition. Information technology takes hours to put the announcement together, and hours are something that I may not accept for awhile.
...merely is barely half over.
Some of the things that are so frustating in our lives are the virtually mundane that we take no control over. Like weather. Or getting a cold. My life has been disrupted greatly past both in the by few weeks and I know they are both totally wearisome to anyone other than those afflicted, only yous know, it's my web log. Sometimes I simply like to whine.
This SNOW and Cold! Information technology simply doesn't stop! I don't care what the TV forecasters telephone call it- "snowmaggedon" or "arctic/polar whatever". It's crazy. James, who is 6, has only been in school 6.five days in the by month b/c of all the holidays and cold. And today he'southward off again! He'southward likely to be out more than later this calendar week after we become even more than snow. At this rate, he'll be making upward days into July. Goodbye, summer.
Because it's been well-below 0 here well-nigh days, we've been cooped up together with little time apart. I beloved my kids and all, just someone (are you pointing at me?) needs to give them a serenity-the-heck-up lesson, and a make clean-upwards-after-yourself class, and a that's-not-your-phone-put-it-down-now smackdown. More often than not just James. 18-calendar month Henry is a freaking ball of adorable please. I'thou serious. This age is crazy cute and fun and makes y'all want to have more of them (NO.) merely vi-year-former-boy-who-has-been-snowed-in-for-a-calendar month makes you lot KA-RAZY.
Click on the picture show. That's right, I've given upwardly one-half my living room to a circus tent. Cheers, IKEA.
The conditions is so bad hither that information technology has disrupted basic services most every week for a calendar month. Want dependable USPS/trash pickup/electric service? Also bad. None for you. Information technology'south been a month of but making things work. And February isn't starting out any better, as evidenced by the coming storm on the radar.
Rant over.
Merely I reserve the right to bring information technology all up adjacent calendar week.
Dream in Color is jubilant February with a tonal pink selection and an ambrosial ruffled scarf. This is the last month for the 2013-2014 Dream Club, until side by side autumn when it starts up again. It's a great pick-as-y'all-go order; no need to subscribe to several unknown months, you simply buy the special edition skein as you see information technology and like it!
Grab yours now before they are gone for good!
A perfect one-skein project, don't y'all retrieve? I think this would be something nice to knit and keep on hand for when you need a special last-minute souvenir for someone.
It's cute and sophisticated and would brand a great accent to any elementary sweater or jacket. Plus it would exist a good pattern to accept at the ready for those skeins you couldn't resist merely have just one of.
